The hard drive is like a nucleus, where all the the information is stored. This does not mean it is guaranteed safe as you may get a nasty virus that will do is best to destroy your important files or photographs, so you must make an organised policy of backing up all your important work, on your hard drive which may go faulty as it has many moving parts.
